Oliver Smith comes close to Course record

Oliver Smith produced a fantastic 2nd round in the 36 hole Scratch Medal to come close to the clubs course record 63 set by Leigh Fletcher in 1980. Oliver set off well but an amazing 2 down the 9th hole got him out in 31 gross (3 under). He then had birdies on the 10th and 12th to get to 5 under par. A sleight miss judgement on 13th lead to a double bogey but despite this Oliver had a great chance of matching the record by making a superb eagle on 17th to go to 5 under par. As he stood on the last he knew a two would get him to 63 and a tie for the record, his 6 iron left him a chance but unfortunately the second shot just grazed the hole.

A great achievement from the clubs lowest handicapper and congratulations from all at Sickleholme.

Oh yes he also won the Scratch 36 Hole Competition by 13 shots!
