Honouring Frank Stone – A Lasting Legacy at Our Club
Dear Members,
I hope this message finds you well.
I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the life and legacy of one of our former members, Frank Stone, who passed away some years ago but remains an important part of our club’s history.
Many of you will remember Frank as a valued and familiar presence within our golfing community. Beyond the course, he led an extraordinary life marked by courage and resilience. During the Second World War, Frank was captured and held as a prisoner of war, where he played a role in the digging of escape tunnels—efforts that later inspired the film The Great Escape. His contribution to that chapter of history is something we can all take great pride in.
In recognition of Frank’s legacy—both as a member of our club and as someone who demonstrated exceptional determination—we continue to honour him through the annual Frank Stone 4 Club Challenge. This event is more than just a test of skill and creativity; it serves as a tribute to a man whose spirit and ingenuity continue to inspire us.
Kind regards
