March Greens report

Greens  Report  -  March 2018

After yet another testing winter and with spring not showing signs of being any more forgiving, I am glad to report that a high percentage of our winter program has been completed. The temporary greens have helped keep members playing whilst protecting the greens & Going forward more effort will be done to improve the surfaces and location of the temps, with preparation beginning later in the year.

The new 8th extra tee has been completed with plans to slowly incorporate it into general play before using in any major comps. The new 6th tee has taken shape nicely.

The 13th path has gone down with some difficulty. There is a small amount of work needed before completion but we are extremely happy with its appearance.

The Small water diversions on the greens have been a success as well as the drainage on 12, 14 and 18.  This method will work more efficiently as time goes on and with future plans to drain all 19 greens (depending on finances.) we should hopefully improve playability throughout the year.

10 new bins have been purchased and three of the best from the course have been placed around the exterior of the club house. New flags and pins have also been purchased, with the colour of the pin matching the colour of the flag. New white stone markers have been handmade and the ladies markers budgeted for next year. All fairway yardage markers have seen a revamp whilst being remeasured and reposition to the middle of the fairway.

As a trial to improve the 12th hole, the fairway has been repositioned slightly, allowing all standards of golfer to play the hole whilst improving its appearance.

Another trial will see some aprons reshaped to add character with the 7th hole seeing and apron introduced.

In January and recently again in March we have hired the Air2G2.  This machine is designed to incorporated air into the soil profile, relieve compaction, improve root mass and oxygenates the soil allowing the good bacteria to thrive and help breakdown thatch. As per last season we are NOT hollow coring the greens this spring. The greens will receive 1 or 2 scarifies before June and another application of Thatcheater.

All the tees have been sprayed for moss and all fairways and aprons will be done shortly, followed by a light spring tine grooming.

At an added expense the whole course will be sprayed for weeds including the rough and semi rough. The rough also seeing an application of rescue. (Rough thinner)
